Weekend at the Dunes

It's been a while, and we have been pretty busy over here and there are a lot posts I would like to do. Hopefully I will get to them all, and remember everything.

Back in June, we got to go spend a few days at Little Sahara Sand Dunes with Cindy and her family. When we got there, it was raining off and on. While it put a little bit of a damper on the weekend, the kids didn't let it stop them from having a good time. We brought lots of sand toys and games, and all of the kids had fun.

Cindy borrowed a friends trailer so we had somewhere to go when the rain got worse. We were very grateful that we had somewhere we could get out of the rain for a bit and not have to worry about our tent leaking all over everything.
The rain lasted a good part of the first day before it cleared up. Once it cleared up, it was perfect and we were really able to have some fun. I didn't take Austin on any rides, but she did get to sit on the four-wheeler.

Here was our little campsite. We weren't sure how the weather was going to be, so we waited to put up our tent. You can see our pack--and-play over in the shade by the trailer. I was amazed at how well Austin napped right there. Once we put our tent up, the pack and play got put inside it.

We played hard and we rested hard.

For her first time camping, Austin did really well. It was encouraging and made me realize that this was something we could do often.

Cindy took me for a ride out to the beloved and famous "spider tree". It's a pretty cool tree and is appropriately named.

After Cindy showed me where to find Spider Tree, I took Lance for a ride to show him. For not having a ton of experience around four-wheelers, he picked up fairly quickly and was riding like a pro (almost) in no time. I think he got a little cocky at one point because he took a hill too fast, jumped it a little, lost his footing, and scrapped his leg pretty good. Luckily he wasn't hurt that bad.

Several days before we had planned on going to the dunes, Blake had an extremely high fever. At one point, it was up to 104 degrees. She didn't eat anything, and hardly moved for 2 days. I made her an appointment to be seen, but hours before her appointment, she was suddenly acting much better. So I ended up not taking her in. I wasn't sure if we should still go or not, but in the end, I decided that she could sit in a chair at the dunes just as easily as she could sit at home.

It was clear while we were at the dunes that she was still not feeling well. She didn't want to play or do anything. She slept the majority of the time that we were there. We found some Tylenol and gave her some and she played for a little bit. But within a few hours she was back to being lethargic and not really responsive.

**I took her in to see the doctor right when we got home and she had a bladder infection. She was given a antibiotic shot and some medication. Within 2 days, she was back to her usual self. I felt bad that I delayed taking her in for so long. She kept having moments where it would seem like she was getting better, so I kept holding off. Poor girl was miserable for over a week.
Will had so much fun hanging out with his cousins. He loved the four-wheeler and seemed to constantly be asking for rides. We only had one four-wheeler there with us, but it was still a lot of fun. The adults even made a race track around our campsite and had time trials. No surprise, Josh won every time. We had a great time and can't wait to go back again.
