4 Months Old

This probably wont be one of my typical monthly posts. I haven't taken as many pictures as I usually do. I didn't want to drive up to Logan for a doctor appointment and I still haven't found a doctor in Kaysville yet, so we haven't had a 4 month check-up. So this will probably be short and sweet, and we'll get back to bigger updates next month.

I feel like Blake has grown a ton this past month. She is definitely getting some more chub to her, especially with her double chin. It probably has to do with the fact that she is eating twice as much as she used to.

She gives smiles freely, which everyone loves.
But she sure likes to spit...A LOT. She will hardly ever go more than a few hours without spitting up a ton. It will drench her and likely whomever is holding her. Fortunately I can often tell when it is coming and can prevent too much of a mess. Though sometimes it is completely unpredictable and in the most inconvenient places. It doesn't seem to bother or hurt her, which is a good sign. I definitely need to ask a doctor about it though.

Blake is so close to being able to roll over, and I'm sure she could if she wanted. She gets 90% of the way and just stays there.

As you can tell from most of the pictures, she loves to suck on her fingers, especially her two on the right hand.

She is ticklish and I can usually get a laugh or two out of her.

She enjoys watching Will play, and I'm am sure she is anxious to be playing there with him.

Not too many "major milestones" this last month, but she is changing fast and we are enjoying every minute with her.

The Dentist

Shortly after Will turned 2 years old, I decided it time that I finally took him in to see a dentist. I grew up with very poor oral hygiene and suffered too many consequences because of it. New dentists are always amazed with how much work I've had done (luckily most is on the back teeth so you can't really tell just from me smiling). Anyways, I have always vowed that I would make my kids brush and that we would have regular dental checkups.
Well, I was already failing at the whole brushing Will's teeth thing, so I figured I better get into the dentist so I wasn't a complete failure. We went to ABC Pediatric dentistry in Providence, UT and they are awesome. They are so great with little kids and making them feel comfortable. They were really great at explaining everything and showing Will all of the tools before they did anything.
Will did great. He allowed them to do their job without fussing, and the experience was just really good as a whole. The bad news came when they announced that he already had 2 cavities...possibly more. Guess he has my genes for teeth. Poor guy.
Anyways, when they do fillings on little kids, they usually sedate them to make the process go smoothly. We booked the soonest appointment, which was over a month out.

Trip to the Dentist: Take Two

Will was not allowed to eat or drink anything after midnight the night before his sedation, and we had to be there around 7:15am. Since we now live in Kaysville, that meant a pretty early morning.

We were taken to a room where he was given the sedation medicine. He could have taken a syringe in the mouth, but if he were to spit any out, we would've had to reschedule and try again another day. So instead we decided to put the medicine up his nose. Will hated it, and I can't blame him. I can't imagine anyone likes stuff squirted up their noses.

Slowly, he started getting a big wobbly and just losing control. He would randomly start laughing hysterically, then he'd stop. It was pretty amusing to watch.

Then they sent me up to the waiting room while they worked on his cavities. I was surprised when about 15-20 minutes later, they came and told me it was finished and went really well. He only had the two small cavities, which was definitely good news. They took me back to a recovery room where Will was lying on a little hospital gurney, connected to a heart rate monitor. He was awake, but completely out of it.

He was pretty unresponsive and just lying there with his eyes and mouth open. It took him about 45 minutes to wake up enough to start talking, though he still had no control over his body. When I picked him up, his head would just flop around all over. He wanted to get down and walk, but he couldn't support his own body weight.
We went over to Grandma and Grandpa's and slowly he kept getting better. Though for the first little while, it was super funny to watch our little intoxicated guy. He kept falling over, losing his balance, and just having a rough time of it. I'm not sure if he realized he was so off balance or not, he just seemed to go with the flow.

In no time, he was running around as usual, wanting a bowl of cereal, and back to his hyper self. (Though he did take a 4 hour nap, which was awesome.)

Hopefully we can start taking better care of his teeth and avoid doing this again.

Still Here

It's been forever since I've had a chance to sit down. I don't know about the rest of the world, but blog posts take time. So much has happened in the past month, but I simply haven't had much time to sit down and write about it. Even now, I only have a few minutes to say that we are still alive. I have not meant to neglect this blog as I have, but things have been pretty crazy.

We have moved to Kaysville and are settled into our new place. There is so much to write about and so much to say, but I'll have to save that for another time. Just know that several blog posts are on their way and should be here shortly.

Until then.

3 Months

Blake turned 3 months old a few days ago. She is such a good baby and so much fun to have in our lives. She is such a little beauty, and I am a bit obsessed with taking pictures of her (as you can see from the overabundance in this post). She is constantly growing and changing and as always, it is fun to see her develop.

She really is such a good baby. She hardly ever just sits there and cries for no reason. If she is crying, then there is a problem. And once that problem is resolved, she is usually back to her happy self.

She has definitely been a champ when it comes to sleeping. I usually put her to bed sometime around 8:30p. She will sleep anywhere from 3a-6am, eat, then go back to sleep for a few hours. So on average she will sleep from 8pm-8am and wake up once during that time to eat. Occasionally she is up twice, but mostly she is only up once.

There are times when she has trouble going back to sleep during the middle of the night, especially if the first time she wakes up is closer to 5am or 6am. She is ready to be awake, though I am not. If I hold her long enough, eventually she will dose back off to sleep for a few more hours.

She has finally found her voice and uses it often.

She has also found her fingers/hands. Lately, she is constantly chewing on her hands. She tries so hard to shove the entire thing into her mouth.
She also likes to grab her clothes and try eating them.
She is extremely fascinated by my camera. She will be smiling and talking and happy, but the second I pull it out, she stares at it. Usually it's a pretty serious face and quite the stare. But it makes it hard to get pictures of her smiling.

The best way for me to capture a smile is to use my phone, since it's not as large and distracting.

Though sometimes that means I don't get as good as quality.

She has been eating a lot more this past month and I expect we'll see her growth start to accelerate a little more. She will eat between 4-5 oz every few hours.

She tends to spit up nearly every time I feed her. I have tried everything I can think of, yet she continues to spit up. It doesn't seem to bother her or be caused by stomach issues, so I'm not worried about it. Now that I am aware of this, I can usually catch most of it with a rag. Though often she'll randomly decide to spit up 20 minutes after she was fed and ends up with wet clothes. I don't think we have made it through a day without clothes being spit up on.

She finally grew out of her newborn clothes, and quickly moved into 3-6 month clothes.

Will loves to hold Blake, but is quick to be done. And when he is done, he will just shove her off or try to hand her over.

She seems to be getting close to rolling over, though right now it's only about half way.

Here are a few more of my favorite pictures:

Sorry for the picture overload, but isn't she stunning?
