A New Kind of Hiking

Hiking has always been a pretty big part of my life, and I'm not about to let the excuse of having a kid prevent us from going hiking. But finding a babysitter isn't always easy, and I hate to but the same people too much. Plus, I really want my kids to gain an appreciation for hiking! The obvious solution is to take Will with us on our hikes.

We got this awesome hiking backpack about a week ago and decided it was time to try it out. Unsure how Will would handle it (as well as ourselves), we decided to do a short walk on the trail by the river to test it out. I didn't want to get 2 miles into a hike and have Will screaming bloody murder as well as be too uncomfortable to carry him back down.
Lets just say, hiking is going to be a whole new adventure. Adding 30 pounds to your back is hard enough, but when that 30 pounds is wiggling and shifting weight, it makes things interesting. If you were to lose your footing or miss a step, I'm not sure you could catch yourself, and you and Will might be taking the short cut down the mountain.

Don't worry, we don't plan on doing anything too dangerous with Will....yet. I think we're going to have to ease into any longer hikes and get our bodies used to carrying the backpack. It's quite a bit of pressure on your shoulders and lower back. But hopefully it wont take long getting used to it and we can enjoy some great hikes this summer!

  1. Look how skinny you are! You look so good! And what a cool back pack! I wish we hocked more.
